Anglican minister heads leading Australian university

Eighteen months ago, Australia's oldest University, the University of Sydney appointed Michael Spence as Vice-Chancellor (equivalent to President in a US university). One thing that got peoples attention is that he is an ordained Anglican minister. Here is an article from the Sydney Morning Herald following his appointment.

  1. More than the fact he was an Anglican minister the thing that raised eyebrows was that he had had never been appointed Associate Professor let alone full Professorial level and that he academic achievements and publications were thin to say the least; he was however a friend of the then Chancellor who oversaw the appointment of the search firm and the appointments committee very closely
