Masters of our destiny?

We continually hear how new technologies such as the internet, Facebook, email, mobile phones have changed the world. But have they really?

It is amazing what humans can now do. We can make iPods, tailor make molecules to use as drugs to cure deadly diseases, move single atoms around at will, understand the beginning of the universe, ...  If we can't do it now (cure cancer, understand quantum theory, ...) surely it is just a matter of time. Maybe..., This can lead to incredible hubris and optimism. But there is a lot we cannot do:
7For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
James 3:7-8
This is just one of many reasons why I consider that the message of the Bible is not the least bit dated. All that email and Facebook has really changed is that it has provided new media and made it easier for us to have the same old relationship problems...

  1. But what is the message of the Bible?
Do you know up close and personal the various people who wrote the books of the Old Testament?

Have you ever meet Jesus up close and personal so that he could explain to you in precise detail how to live (moment to moment) the spirit-breathing Spiritual Way of Life that he taught and demonstrated while he was alive?

Have you meet Paul, who by the way never ever met Jesus up close and personal?

Have you meet the various church fathers who put what became the "official" Bible together?
Did you ask them why they chose the particular writings that they did, and conversely why they chose NOT to include other then available writings?

Have you asked these chaps why they edited (very heavily) even the writings that they did include?

Have you asked them why they invented or fabricated "evidence" or stories which they then pretended to be "reports" of "events" that did not, COULD NOT, have happened.

And what about all of the other Sacred Scriptures from the entire Great Tradition of humankind? Especially as in 2011 they are now all freely available to anyone with an internet connection.

But the real question here re whether we are, or are not, masters of our destiny, IS the meaning and significance of death.

Are you prepared to fully and unconditionally surrender to The Divine Condition?

If not you are still playing the role/fiction of being the master of your destiny.

All of your beliefs about "Jesus" are your self created hedge/wall which actively prevent such unconditional surrender.
