It argues from a purely secular materialist point of view that people in the Western world are burdened by all the junk/possessions they accumulate and won't get rid of. They point out there is a purely financial cost to keeping all this stuff. Furthermore, it can take significant time and crowds out mental space...
For a Christian the imperative to "down size" and "travel light" should be even greater.
